Floods and Landslides Kill Over 330 in Northern Pakistan

Kathmandu, Aug 17: The death toll from floods and landslides in northern Pakistan has climbed to at least 332, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province suffering the heaviest losses.

More than 200 people were killed in a single day following heavy rains and cloudburst floods. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Buner district has been the worst hit, reporting 208 deaths in the past 48 hours. Officials confirmed 120 people injured and 50 still missing.

Other districts also faced severe losses: 37 deaths in Shangla, 23 in Mansehra, 22 in Swat, 21 in Bajour, 15 in Battagram and five in Lower Dir.

Given the scale of devastation, the provincial government has declared a state of emergency in the most affected districts, including Buner, Bajour, Swat, Shangla, Mansehra, Torghar, Upper and Lower Dir, and Battagram.
