Kathmandu, Aug 26: Australia has announced it will expel Iran’s ambassador, accusing him of orchestrating anti-Semitic attacks in Sydney and Melbourne.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the incidents as “an extraordinary and dangerous act of aggression by a foreign country on Australian soil.”
Mike Burgess, head of the Australian Security Intelligence Organization, said intelligence reports confirmed that the Iranian government had directed at least two attacks targeting Jewish communities, with more expected.
Ahmed Sadeghi and three other Iranian officers have been ordered to leave Australia within seven days.
Iran has not yet responded to Australia’s decision.
