Kathmandu, Sept 4: Russian President Vladimir Putin has criticized the United States for its approach toward India and China, saying Washington cannot treat the two Asian powers in such a manner.

Speaking to reporters in China on Wednesday, Putin said, “There are countries like India, with a population of about 1.5 billion. These countries have mechanisms and leadership that must be respected.”

He highlighted the historical struggles of India and China, stating, “These countries have faced colonial oppression for a long time. If any of them shows weakness, their political careers will end. The colonial era is over. We must understand this.”

Putin added that eventually, “everything will be fine,” stressing that such issues should not be escalated into political rhetoric.

Recently, US President Donald Trump imposed a 50 percent tariff on Indian goods, arguing that the move would pressure New Delhi into reducing its economic ties with Moscow. Trump claimed India’s purchase of Russian oil is indirectly financing Russia’s war in Ukraine.
