Kathmandu, Sept 11: Following the Gen-G movement, discussions have begun on forming an interim government after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s resignation created a power vacuum. Representatives of the Gen-G movement have proposed former Chief Justice Sushila Karki to head the interim government.

Gen-G MP Anil Baniya said the movement had been called as a peaceful agitation but accused some elements of conspiring to set fire to government structures including Singhadurbar and the courts.
“Our leaders have robbed us since the republic came to the country. They have stolen our livelihoods. There is still a shortage of medicines like paracetamol in Humla, Jumla and Muguma. We called for a peaceful movement but some cadres set fire to the country’s structures,” he said.

Gen-G representative Diwakar Dhangal urged all Nepalis to unite to protect sovereignty, national unity and the dignity of the people while advancing economic prosperity.

Another leader, Junal Gadal, said the Gen-G movement now needed to exercise restraint. “We vandalized yesterday. We were angry. Now we must be restrained. If Gen-G youth are not united today, the old parties will benefit,” he warned.

Ojasviraj Thapa clarified that Gen-G could not and would not take direct leadership now. Activist Purushottam Yadav said the people’s main demand was the dissolution of parliament and full support for former Chief Justice Karki.

Sudan Gurung, chairman of Hami Nepal, vowed to take revenge for “one drop of Gen-G’s blood” and urged people not to abandon the movement. He said he was carrying Nepal’s national flag and did not support any political party.

This push for an interim government under a non-partisan figure like Sushila Karki signals a possible transition phase following the political turmoil triggered by the Gen-G protests.
