Kathmandu, Sept 14: A massive rally organised by far-right activist Tommy Robinson in London on Saturday descended into violence, leaving dozens injured and prompting police to make multiple arrests.

According to police estimates, around 1.5 million people took part in the event billed as “Unite the Kingdom.” Tensions flared when some attendees began throwing bottles and other objects. At least 26 police officers were injured in the clashes, four of them seriously. Police described the violence as “totally unacceptable” and confirmed that 25 people had been arrested on various charges.

Security was already tight in central London. The clashes reportedly broke out after police moved in with batons to control Robinson’s supporters near Whitehall. At the same time, a counter-demonstration by the anti-racism group “Stand Up to Racism” drew about 5,000 people.

Elon Musk, the owner of social media platform X, addressed the crowd via video link, while Robinson — whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon — used his speech to criticise political leaders. He claimed British courts were prioritising the rights of undocumented immigrants over those of local residents.

Robinson cited a recent case in which the Court of Appeal overturned an order blocking The Bell Hotel in Epping, Essex, from offering accommodation to asylum seekers. The incident has fuelled debate over immigration, policing and political extremism in the UK.
