Siraha, Oct 5: Continuous rainfall has heightened the risk of floods and landslides in Siraha, prompting authorities and security agencies to call for high vigilance.

Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Annataram Sharma said vehicle movement was disrupted in some areas, with traffic diverted from Aurahi and Bariyarpatti Chowk after water levels rose in Sahaja Khola along the Postal Road. Police teams have been deployed in sensitive locations.

Chief District Officer (CDO) Basanta Adhikari stated that while the flow in major rivers — including Kamala, Gagan, Balan, Surrey, and Khutti — is currently normal, levels could rise at any time due to ongoing rains. “We are closely monitoring vulnerable areas. Citizens are urged to remain cautious,” he said.

A team led by the CDO inspected the Kamala River area, where temporary dams have been built using sand-filled buckets to control erosion.

Local governments have also taken action. Lahan Municipality Chief Mahesh Prasad Chaudhary visited Jhirahari River in Ward 16 and Sundarpur and Islampur settlements in Ward 4. He said the municipality is carrying out drainage works in flooded zones.

Authorities have urged residents near rivers and streams to stay alert and evacuate immediately if they sense danger.
