Pakistan Confirms 48-Hour Ceasefire at Taliban’s Request

Kathmandu, Oct 16: Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has confirmed a 48-hour ceasefire following a request from the Taliban’s interim government.

According to BBC Urdu, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid also verified the ceasefire agreement.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry stated that the ceasefire took effect at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, with the Taliban urging both sides to hold talks during this period. A spokesperson for the Afghan Taliban, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), said the truce was initiated at the request of the Afghan Taliban leadership.

Earlier on Wednesday, Pakistan claimed to have destroyed several Afghan military posts. The Pakistani Army’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that the Afghan Taliban had launched an attack on the morning of October 15, during which 15 to 20 attackers were killed in retaliatory action.
