Minister Pun Calls for Non-Political Character in Teachers’ Federation
Kathmandu, Nov 9: Education, Science and Technology Minister Mahabir Pun has urged that the Federation of Nepal Teachers, teachers and education authority employees adopt a non-political character.
In a statement issued today, Minister Pun said trade unions should remain organizations of common professional interest capable of collective bargaining over rights and working conditions, rather than political platforms. He warned that teachers’ organizations engaging in political activity will not be officially recognized.
Minister Pun added that political activities by some teachers and lecturers—sourced from various quarters—have negatively affected education quality. “Action will be taken against those found involved in immoral political activities,” the statement said.
