Kathmandu, Jan 4: A political cartoon created nearly two decades ago has resurfaced and gone viral on social media, drawing fresh attention amid major global developments and renewed focus on U.S. actions related to Venezuela.

The cartoon, titled “Crime in Progress,” was created in 2007 by renowned Brazilian political cartoonist Carlos Latuff. At the time, it was widely viewed as a satire criticizing U.S. foreign policy. However, following recent U.S. military actions, many social media users are now linking the cartoon to current events and questioning whether the developments were anticipated years ago.

In the illustration, Uncle Sam is depicted shouting into a telephone at the White House. Beside him is a list of countries where the United States has previously intervened militarily. Adjacent to this is another section labeled “To Do,” which lists Bolivia, Venezuela, Cuba, and Iran.

As the cartoon circulates widely online, some users describe it as a prophetic warning, while others argue it reflects long-standing critiques of U.S. interventionism rather than a prediction. The renewed attention highlights how political art can gain new meaning as global events unfold.
