Tariq Rahman to Be Sworn In as Bangladesh Prime Minister After BNP Landslide Victory
Kathmandu, Feb 17: A new government is being formed in Bangladesh today as Tarique Rahman, Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), is set to be sworn in as Prime Minister.
In the general election held on February 12, the BNP secured a decisive victory, winning 209 seats on its own and achieving a two-thirds majority with 212 seats alongside alliance partners. The outcome paves the way for a strong mandate for the new administration.
The swearing-in ceremony has been organized on a grand scale at the South Plaza of the Parliament Building in Dhaka. Around 1,200 domestic and international guests are expected to attend the event.
President Mohammad Shahabuddin is scheduled to administer the oath of office and secrecy to Prime Minister-designate Rahman and members of the new cabinet.
The formation of the new government marks a significant political transition in Bangladesh, with expectations high regarding governance, economic reforms, and national stability under the BNP-led administration.
