India Defeat New Zealand to Win ICC T20 World Cup
Kathmandu, March 8: India have won the ICC Twenty20 World Cup after defeating New Zealand in the final.
Batting first after losing the toss, India posted a massive total of 255 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Sanju Samson led the batting with a brilliant 89 runs off 46 balls, hitting five fours and eight sixes.
Abhishek Sharma scored 52 runs from 21 balls while Ishan Kishan contributed 54 runs off 25 balls. Hardik Pandya added 18 runs in 13 balls, while captain Suryakumar Yadav was dismissed for one run. Towards the end, Shivam Dube played a quick innings of 26 runs off eight balls and Tilak Verma remained unbeaten on eight.
In reply, New Zealand failed to chase the huge target of 256 runs and fell short, allowing India to secure the title.
For New Zealand, James Neesham took three wickets while Matt Henry and Rachin Ravindra claimed one wicket each.
