Kathmandu, March 17: Rastriya Swatantra Party President Ravi Lamichhane and senior leader Balen Shah, who are preparing to form a government with a two-thirds majority, are holding continuous discussions on government formation.

While preparations are underway to form a government under Balen’s leadership within the next week, the two leaders have yet to reach an agreement on the selection of ministers. Balen is said to be in favor of choosing ministers independently to ensure smooth functioning of the government.

According to sources, Balen has proposed that Ravi focus on running the party while he manages the government. He is also preparing to reduce the number of ministries and wants flexibility in appointing ministers.

Ravi, however, wants leaders close to him to be appointed to key ministries that directly impact the public. He is reportedly firm on securing ministries such as Home, Defense, Foreign Affairs, Finance and Labor for his close associates.

Balen, on the other hand, is keen on appointing his own trusted figures to important ministries like Home and Finance. The two leaders have not yet reached a consensus on the distribution of these portfolios.

Party sources say discussions are ongoing to finalize the cabinet, with plans to complete the formation around the same time Balen is expected to assume office. Despite strong public support and clear leadership prospects, differences over ministerial selection are delaying final decisions.
