Home Minister Gurung Meets Chinese Ambassador, Discusses Security and Cooperation
Kathmandu, Apr 13: Home Minister Sudhan Gurung held a courtesy meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chang Maoming at the Home Ministry.
During the meeting, Ambassador Maoming congratulated Gurung on his appointment and wished him a successful tenure. In response, Home Minister Gurung reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to the One China policy and said the government is vigilant to prevent any anti-China activities on Nepali soil.
He also stated that Nepal is capable of protecting its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity. The Home Minister requested coordination from the Chinese side for the deportation of Chinese nationals staying illegally in Nepal.
Gurung further urged timely completion of Chinese-assisted projects, progress in the Nepal-China railway construction and initiatives to facilitate bilateral trade.
Ambassador Maoming expressed China’s positive stance on Nepal’s proposal to cooperate in controlling criminal activities along the border and committed to supporting capacity development of Nepal’s security forces.
The Home Minister also raised concerns about reports of difficulties faced by freight vehicles at the Tatopani checkpoint in Sindhupalchok. Ambassador Maoming clarified that there were no issues from the Chinese side and termed such reports as incorrect.
Both sides reiterated their commitment to strengthening long-standing Nepal-China relations and enhancing cooperation in the days ahead.
