32,000 vials of Remdesivir arrives in Nepal
Kathmandu, May 11. On Tuesday, Himalayan airlines carrying 32,000 Remdesivir quills from Bangladesh landed in Kathmandu.
According to sources, 10,000 doses were ordered by the Government whereas the rest 22,000 were ordered by private companies.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population Dr. Jageshwor Gautam announced that the doses imported by the government will be distributed free of cost to government hospitals all over Nepal.
The doses brought by private companies have a fixed rate of Rs 5,000 per injection. However, the companies will not be allowed to supply quills on their will. They will have to supply as per the list of hospitals provided by the Ministry of Health.
Remdesivir
Remdesivir is the only antiviral drug, tested and proven, that can be utilized in the treatment of COVID-19 patients. The trials of the drug involved over 1,000 hospitalized patients from around the globe, and showed that the drug was more effective in speeding up the recovery time by 5 to 7 days, and reducing the risk of death by 30%.
The demand for this drug is increasing in Nepal. Cases of Blackmarket have also been heard in the past couple of few weeks.
