Vaccinated people in the US can discard their masks
Kathmandu, May 14. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC) has announced that fully vaccinated people can stop using masks in crowded outdoors and most indoor settings in the US.
The new guidance that came out on Thursday still calls for wearing masks in crowded indoor settings like buses, planes, hospitals, prisons and homeless shelters.
President Joe Biden said during a Rose Garden address,”Today is a great day for America.”
Rochelle Walensky, director of the CDC said that all the people had been waiting for the moment and hence a sense of normalcy has arrived. The Biden administration and CDC had been facing pressure to ease restrictions on fully vaccinated people.
The country’s aggressive vaccination drive has been successful since the country’s cases are in the lowest since September and the test positivity rate is lowest since the pandemic began.
Biden has advised their citizens to take of themselves and their neighbors as well. He said that they have come so far and they should protect themselves until they reach the finish line.
Till date, around 47% of the US population has received at least one dose of the covid vaccine.
