Melamchi representatives to offer one month’s pay to flood assistance

Kathmandu, June 20. People’s representatives of Sindhupalchowk’s Melamchi ward number-1 have decided to donate their one-month salary to the flood relief fund.
On Sunday, Ward chairman Krishna Prasad Chaulagain chaired an emergency meeting with the committee that agreed on generating financial assistance to the flood survivors.
According to agency reports, Chairman Chaulagain will donate Rs. 26,730 from his upcoming salary. The executive members shall contribute 12,870. Whereas, the ward members will offer Rs. 9,900 each.
Wednesday Disaster
Heavy rainfall on Wednesday caused floods and landslides in the Sindhupalchowk district. Later that day, Health Minister Sher Bahadur Tamang informed that 50 people were missing in Melamchi and Indravati river flooding.
Areas of Timbu, Chanaute, Talamarang, and Melamchi Bazaar are said to have been affected massively by the disaster. Additionally, Nakote bridge, Timbu bridge, Phatte bridge, Melamchi bridge, Bahunepati bridge have been swept away by the floods.
Melamchi Ward numbers 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 have suffered a massive loss of life and property.
The floods and landslides also have caused damages to the Melamchi Drinking Water Project. Around 40 people are said to have been working at the Melamchi Drinking Water Project while the incident occurred. Most of them are still missing.
