600-year-old statue disappears from Balkumari Temple, Lalitpur

Kathmandu, January 23. The 600-year-old Lichhavi era statue of the Balkumari Temple has been stolen.

On Sunday morning, the locals discovered that the statue went missing. Shortly after, a team of Nepal Police reached the temple premise. The police confirmed that the statue was lifted by breaching four gates and cutting nine padlocks. 

Lalitpur Chief District Officer Upadhyay told reporters that the statue was possibly stolen between 3 and 4 a.m.

Hours later, Energy Minister Pampha Bhusal inspected the area and instructed the local administration to immediately launch an investigation and identify the thieves.

The police has intensified the search for the archaeological statue.
