Kathmandu, September 3. Former Sri Lankan president Gotabaya Rajapaksa returned back home after seven weeks. He fled the country in July, after protests emerged against him and the increased economic instability in the country. Protestors had swarmed into his office and home and vandalized different equipment around those places.
The ousted leader flew to Maldives, Singapore and then Thailand. Additionally, Rajapaksa resigned from Singapore.
Further, he has no warrant or court case against him. A case was against him during his time as secretary to the ministry of defense, but was later withdrawn as he became president in 2019.
Sri Lanka witnessed its worst economic downfall with fuel shortages, medicine, food and gas supply shortages. The foreign currency in the country also witnessed a great shortage.
Current President Ranil Wickremesinghe reached an agreement with International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a $2.9 billion bailout package over four years on Tuesday.
