Poisonous food claims lives of white-rumped vultures
Kawasoti, June 24. Four white-rumped vultures, known as Dangar Giddha, were discovered dead in Kawasoti. The post-mortem report has confirmed that the vultures died as a result of ingesting toxins.
The incident occurred on Tuesday near Kerunge stream in Kawasoti Municipality-3. “A jackal was also found lifeless in close proximity to the vultures,” Vulture Conservationist DB Chaudhary told reporters on Saturday.
He further added, “It is suspected that the jackal perished after consuming poisonous food, and the vultures suffered the same fate after feeding on the jackal’s carcass.”
Earlier in February, five white-rumped vultures had died of similar poisoning cases.
Chaudhary urged all concerned organizations to prioritize the conservation of these endangered vultures, emphasizing the serious challenge posed by the use of poison to kill jackals and banned drugs administered to livestock.
