Flooding and Landslides Displace Thirteen Families in Bajura District
Bajura, July 29: Thirteen families in Bajura district have been displaced due to flooding and landslides.While speaking about the situation, the District Police Office of Bajura reported that the families affected belong to Himali and Gaumul rural municipalities. On Friday, heavy flooding and landslides struck the region, resulting in the displacement of these families, with dozens of houses at risk.
Police Inspector Ranindra Singh Kathayat stated that Diplal Budha’s house in Himali rural municipality-3, Yuna, was completely destroyed by a landslide that occurred on Friday morning. Additionally, ten houses in the same ward are at risk due to potential landslides. The Yuna health post is also under threat.
Similarly, in Gaumul rural municipality-3, 12 families have been displaced due to landslides caused by continuous rainfall. Vice-Chairperson of Gaumul rural municipality, Sita Thapa, shared that five families from Behari and seven from Dhalkanda have also been displaced. The entire settlement is at risk of further landslides.
Currently, over 60 members of 12 families have sought refuge at Thumthala Primary School as a temporary shelter.
The disastrous situation has put more than 2,000 families in the district at risk of potential landslides, leaving local authorities concerned about the safety and well-being of the affected communities.
