Ongoing Earthquake Trouble in Western Afghanistan
Kathmandu, Oct 11: Recently, another big earthquake hit western Afghanistan, not long after two other strong quakes that killed over 1,000 people in the same area. This latest quake had a magnitude of 6.3 and happened near the city of Herat.
More than 100 people got hurt and had to go to the hospital because of it. Many folks were already sleeping outside because their homes got destroyed by the earlier quakes. There’s also not enough blankets, food, and other things that people need.
One person who saw the earthquake in Herat said it was very scary. She ran out of her house in the middle of the night because she was so frightened. This was the third major earthquake to hit the region in a short time.
The area where the first earthquake happened, Zindajan, was badly affected. Many houses there were not strong enough to handle the shaking, and they turned into piles of rubble.
Afghanistan often has earthquakes, especially in the Hindu Kush mountains, where it’s located. This is because it’s close to where two big pieces of the Earth’s surface meet.
People in western Afghanistan need help right now, like shelter, medical care, and things to live on. The community there is strong, and with support from around the world, they can start rebuilding their lives after these tough times.
