Stampede at Tundikhel Maghi Celebration Leaves 16 Injured
Kathmandu, Jan 15: A festive atmosphere turned chaotic in Tundikhel as a stampede erupted during the Maghe Sankranti celebration, resulting in injuries to 16 individuals. The incident occurred during separate programs organized by the Magar and Tharu communities to commemorate Maghi.
Superintendent of Police Kumodh Dhungel, the spokesperson for the District Police Complex Kathmandu, provided details about the unfortunate incident. The injured individuals were rushed to the trauma center of Bir Hospital for prompt medical attention. The stampede unfolded amid the crowded gathering, leading to commotion and injuries as people pushed and shoved while entering and exiting the festival site.
Details of the Injured:
1. Trisana Magar, 12 years old, from District Khotang, currently residing in Lalitpur Patan (head injury, able to speak).
2. Anjana Tamang, 12 years old, from District Sindhupalchok, now living in Lalitpur Chamunda (forehead injury, able to speak).
3. Regina Ghale, 19 years old, from District Dhading Ganga Jamuna Rural Municipality, currently living in Futung, Kathmandu (forehead and mouth injuries, able to speak).
4. Nikita Magar, 16 years old, originally from Dhankuta district, currently residing in Chakhupat, Lalitpur (facial injuries, able to speak).
5. Rekha Chaudhary, 30 years old, from District Bardia Radhapur Municipality, currently living in Nayabazar, Kathmandu (stomach injury, able to speak).
6. Anisa K.C., 16 years old, from District Pyuthan Khalanga Rural Municipality, currently living in Futung, Kathmandu (right hand injury, able to speak).
7. Kalpana Chaudhary, 25 years old, from District Kailali Bhajania Municipality, currently living in Lalitpur Bhaisepati (head injury, able to speak).
8. Mandira Basnet, 22 years old, from District Sunsari Dharan sub-metropolitan ward, currently living in Banasthali, Kathmandu (left leg and ear injury, able to speak).
9. Meena Thapa, 22 years old, from District Lalitpur Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality Ward (now able to speak after being brought out of a coma).
10. Riza Resmi Magar, 19 years old, from District Kailali Ghodaghodi rural municipality, resident of Sitapaila, Kathmandu (stomach injury, forehead).
11. Prithvi Budhamagar, working in Koshi province training center and Tripureshwar special security group (left leg injury, able to speak).
12. Nisha Rana Thapa, 25 years old, from District Palpa Tansen Municipality Ward No. 14, resident of Lainchour (minor injuries on both legs).
13. Nirmala Shrestha, 22 years old, from District Sankhuwashabha Myadi Municipality (forehead, left hip, and both legs injuries, able to speak).
14. Rashmi Nepal, 27 years old, from District Lalitpur Lalitpur Maha-municipality Ward (injury on left cheek, able to speak).
15. Yunika Baral, 11 years old, from District Dolakha Arughat Village Ward No. 8, now living in Chaumati (normal).
16. Karisma Magar, 14 years old, from District Udaipur Rautamai Village 08, currently living in Manmaiju (face and back injuries, able to speak).
The injured are receiving medical care, and authorities are investigating the incident to determine the cause of the stampede.
