Wildfire Threatens Schools and Settlements in Baglung’s Batakachaur
Dhorpatan, Mar 14: A wildfire that ignited in Bareng Rural Municipality-3, specifically in Batakachaur of Baglung, earlier today remains uncontained, posing a significant threat to the Sarda Secondary School and Birkhat settlement. The blaze, which started in the Birkhat community forest, has been fueled by strong winds, hampering containment efforts.
Krishna Prasad Sharma, the Chairman of Bareng Rural Municipality, expressed concerns over the fire’s escalation towards populated areas and educational institutions due to the prevailing gusty winds. Despite concerted efforts from the police, locals, and students to extinguish the flames, their attempts have been thwarted by the adverse weather conditions.
Chairman Sharma emphasized the urgent need for additional police personnel to effectively control the wildfire before it engulfs nearby schools and settlements. The fire, originating from Mandre Dhunga, has rapidly advanced towards Mavi Batakachaur, heightening the risk to the surrounding areas.
“The wildfire situation is dire, and our villagers are making every effort to contain it. However, the strong winds are proving to be a major challenge. The fire is encroaching upon Sarada Mavi and Barikhat settlement of Batakachaur,” remarked Chairman Sharma, underscoring the collaborative efforts involving law enforcement to combat the blaze. He also mentioned expectations of more reinforcements to bolster firefighting operations.
The ongoing wildfire situation underscores the critical need for swift and coordinated actions to mitigate the imminent threat posed to lives, property, and natural resources in the affected region.
