Bhaktapur, Jul 20: Despite the absence of rainfall in Bhaktapur’s urban areas, the Hanumante River has overflowed, flooding various parts of the city. This unexpected surge in water levels is due to heavy rains in Kavre’s Nala, Tathali, and surrounding regions, causing floodwaters from Kavre to overflow into Bhaktapur. The situation has led to significant disruptions, particularly in the slum areas and other settlements near the river.

The flood has notably blocked the road from Jagati to Chyamasingh after inundating the bridge at Thusacha in Bhaktapur. As a result, the river’s water has spilled onto the road, entering nearby houses and affecting the residents’ daily lives. Areas such as Hanuman Ghat, Ram Mandir in Suryavinayak, Shanti Niketan Secondary School, and Barahishthan have been severely impacted by the floodwaters. Temples, schools, and riverside settlements have also experienced significant flooding, disrupting the community’s normal activities.

The increased flow of floodwater has affected several other areas, including the Ram temple area, Radheradhe of Barahi, Madhyapurthimi, Balkot, and Chardobato, as well as various tributaries of the Hanumante River. This widespread inundation has led to a considerable disruption in the daily life of residents in Jagati, Chyamasingh, Hanumanghat, and Barahishthan. The Water and Meteorology Department, along with various rain measurement centers in Bhaktapur, has issued warnings as the current water level at the Hanumante Khola Jagadi measurement center has reached an alert level.

In response to the situation, Roshni Kumari Shrestha, the Chief District Officer of Bhaktapur, has reported that the administration has heightened its alert status. Security forces, all four municipalities, and the Nepal Red Cross Society have been mobilized to reduce potential damage from floods, landslides, and inundation. These measures aim to ensure the safety and protection of residents in the affected areas, highlighting the community’s preparedness and response efforts amidst this natural disaster.
