Trump Signs Executive Order to Abolish U.S. Department of Education

Kathmandu, March 21: U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing officials to abolish the Department of Education, fulfilling a key campaign promise.
“We’re going to shut it down as soon as possible,” Trump stated on Thursday after signing the order, arguing that the department is “not doing us any good.”
However, completely dismantling the department requires Congressional approval, which remains unlikely. Legal challenges are also expected from groups opposing the closure and the deep staff cuts announced last week.
Trump defended his decision, stating, “The United States spends more on education than any other country, but student success is still low.”
The Department of Education manages federal student loans, provides assistance to low-income and physically challenged students, and oversees national education policies. Critics argue that shutting it down could disrupt financial aid programs and impact millions of students.
