Kathmandu, April 6: Demonstrators gathered at Maitighar, Kathmandu on Sunday demanding the reinstatement of Kulman Ghising, former Managing Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), who was removed from office under controversial circumstances.

The protests were organized by various groups under the “Kulman Ghising Restoration Struggle Movement Committee”, who claim that Ghising — often credited as the hero behind the end of load-shedding in Nepal — was unjustly dismissed due to pressure from corrupt middlemen.

Key Highlights from the Protest:

  • Protesters dressed in cultural attire and carrying musical instruments chanted slogans in support of Ghising.
  • Placards with messages such as “Kulman Ghising, the Pride of the Country” were displayed prominently.
  • Protesters called for the resignation of the Prime Minister and Energy Minister, accusing them of bowing to vested interests.
  • They questioned the government’s logic behind removing someone who turned a loss-making organization into a profitable one.

Demonstrators warned that protests would continue until Kulman Ghising is reinstated, criticizing the decision as influenced by “corrupt middlemen” from inside Singhadurbar and Baluwatar.

Ghising, known for ending the era of daily power cuts in Nepal, remains a popular public figure, and his removal has sparked widespread public discontent.
