South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen Retires from International Cricket at 33

Kathmandu, June 3: South African wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen has announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 33. Klaasen shared the news on Instagram on Monday, calling it a “sad day” but one filled with clarity about his future.
“It took me a long time to decide what was best for me and my family’s future. It was a very tough decision, but now I’m completely satisfied with it,” he wrote.
Klaasen ends his international career with a solid record:
- 60 ODIs: 2,141 runs at an average of 43.69
- 58 T20Is: 1,000 runs with an impressive strike rate
- He had earlier retired from Test cricket in January 2024, having played only four Tests.
Klaasen made his international debut in 2017 and played at the top level for just seven years. Despite stepping away from the global stage, Klaasen remains in top form. Just last week, he smashed a blistering 105 off 39 balls for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.
