‘Phulpati Badhai’ observed at Sainik Manch

Kathmandu. President Bidya Devi Bhandari attended the ‘Phulpati Badhai’ ceremony at Sainik Manch in Tundikhel today. She graced the ceremony as the supreme commander-in-chief of the Nepal Army as per the constitutional system.

This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Phulpati was observed in a symbolic manner to keep intact the culture and traditions of the ceremony. The army shot rifles, flowers were showered through helicopters and the song “rato ra chandra surya” was played along with devotional hymns dedicated to the Goddess Durga.

The ceremony also had a smaller number of guests with masks, sanitizers and social distancing made compulsory. Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Agni Prasad Sapkota, National Assembly Speaker Ganesh Prasad Timilsina and others were present on the occasion. Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokharel, Chief Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi, high-ranking officials of the Government of Nepal, security chiefs, and other prominent ministers were also present on the occasion. They were welcomed by the Chief of Army Staff, Purna Chandra Thapa. General public also gathered around Tundikhel to watch the ceremony.
