Villagers give up alcohol upon the request of the Gods
Jajarkot. Due to their faith in their Gods, a village in Dolpa has become alcohol free. Narku Thargaon of Mudkechula Rural Municipality-6 of Dolpa district has zero alcohol consumption now. The production and sale of liquor has stopped after all the locals started worshiping the deities. The village is calmer since their abstinence. It is believed that this transformation happened in the settlement of 33 households after the God they believe in urged them not to produce and/or consume alcohol.
Priest Ram Bahadur Bohora informed that alcohol has been banned for the past two years after their Gods believed that it was not good to consume and sell alcohol. “In the past, people used to drink alcohol, make noise, quarrel in the house every day followed by various domestic violence. However, everything now has calmed down after the gods stopped them,” expressed ward member Munlal Buda.
In the settlement inhabited only by Kshatriyas, even the former drinkers have had a positive impact since the revelation of the deity, as mentioned by the locals. The locals, who have been worshiping since time immemorial to save religion and culture, have made this village an example within the district, owing to their abstinence from alcohol.
As per the villagers, the Gods have created rituals for sowing and yielding crops and for the onset of many other good deeds in the village.
