New Delhi.

Karan Johar and his film production company Dharma Productions are in trouble due to the ongoing case against Bollywood film ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ in the Delhi High Court. The film, a biopic of Flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena has been accused of misrepresenting the Indian Air Force (the IAF). Regarding this issue, now retired, Gunjan Saxena, said in an affidavit filed in the Delhi High Court that she faced no gender-based discrimination while in the Air Force.

The film features Saxena’s character portrayed by Janhvi Kapoor heavily discriminated on the basis of gender. In an affidavit filed in a single session of the High Court headed by Justice Rajiv Shakdher, Saxena stated she believed that the IAF was a very progressive institution and would always be grateful to it for giving her the opportunity to serve for the country. She added that the film was not a documentary but was inspired by her story and expressed as a dramatic presentation of her life.

In a video conference hearing, the High Court asked the lawyers of the Indian Air Force and Dharma Productions to sit together and try to resolve the issue related to the content shown in the film. The court has rejected the demand to ban the release of the film in theaters and the next hearing is set for January 18, 2021. The Central government had filed a complaint against the film in the Delhi High Court accusing it for trying to tarnish the image of the Air Force as well as showcasing gender discrimination where it did not happen, also demanding a ban on the release of the film in theaters.
