2020 US Presidential Election: With the Keystone state, Biden wins the race becoming President-Elect
Joe Biden will be the second President since World War II to win the race despite losing Ohio.
Kathmandu. Joseph Robinette Biden Jr., better known as Joe Biden, has become the President-Elect by winning his home state, Pennsylvania.
With this win, he will go down in history as the second President after John F. Kennedy to win the Presidential race since the conclusion of World War II, without securing the “presidential fortune-teller” Ohio.
The Keystone state where he started his campaign and ended it became the battleground where he defeated the Republican candidate Donald J. Trump and paved a clear pathway towards becoming the 46th President of the United States of America.
He had launched the campaign in Philadelphia, his hometown by claiming that, “Everyone knows who Donald Trump is; we have to let them know who we are,” and now he has, as he has broken records for the most votes gained by a Presidential candidate with more than 74 million votes, beating Barrack Obama. With Joe Biden Kamala Harris will be the first female Vice-President of the US.
After the decisive win, Harris has tweeted, “This election is about so much more than @JoeBiden or me. It’s about the soul of America and our willingness to fight for it. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Let’s get started.”
Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, Alaska and North Carolina are yet to announce the final results, however, Biden has a clear lead in both Arizona and Georgia.
Donald Trump’s campaign has persisted that they will contest the win in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Georgia and Michigan, as they have already filed a lawsuit in Wisconsin. Georgia has also announced a re-count of the votes, according to Al Jazeera.
Earlier on Trump had warned Biden to not declare victory, questioning the ballots and the democratic process of the votes. “I had such a big lead in all of these states late into election night, only to see the leads miraculously disappear as the days went by. Perhaps these leads will return as our legal proceedings move forward!,” he had added.
It is also significant to keep in mind that Biden’s term in the White House may get even more complicated if the Republicans succeed in taking back the control of the US Senate. The Supreme Court, with the swift confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett also has a Conservative majority.
The President-elect will take the lead in White House facing the daunting task of dealing with the global pandemic, a divided nation and meeting the overwhelming hopes of his supporters.
