Canada halts distribution of Johnson vaccine; US warns J&J to discard millions of doses
FDA found sanitary problems and bad manufacturing practices at the plant.
Kathmandu, June 12. Canada’s national health body, Health Canada on Friday announced that it will not distribute 3 lakh doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The shipment of vials that arrived in April is suspected of quality issues.
The statement released by the department reads, “To protect the health and safety of Canadians in response to concerns regarding a drug substance produced at the Emergent BioSolutions facility in Baltimore Maryland, Health Canada will not be releasing the shipment”.
The health body was unable to determine the quality standards of the shipment, but the batch of vaccines was manufactured at that time when another batch was found to be contaminated. Therefore, the department decided to hold the distribution and conduct an onsite inspection of the Baltimore manufacturing unit.
