NTA urges government to issue “Strict Cyber Security Act” for regulating social media

Kathmandu, January 22. To combat escalating criminal activities, the Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) has asked that the Cyber Security Act be passed and adequately enforced.

According to NTA,  the risk of cyber security is growing every day, and unlawful and criminal actions on social media are on the rise. Therefore, the Authority has urged the government to immediately issue the cyber act.

NTA Chair Purushottam Khanal opined that social media platforms like Viber, Skype, Facebook, and YouTube should be regulated by the government.

The authority’s budget is now supporting internet access in 679 local levels, 5,554 ward offices, 5,032 schools, and 4,027 health posts throughout 393 locations.
