Explosion at Oxygen refueling factory in Bangladesh, five killed and 25 injured

Kathmandu, March 5. At least five people were killed while several others were injured after an explosion happened inside an oxygen refilling plant in Bangladesh.
On Saturday afternoon, an explosion occured at around 4:30 pm, during refilling of oxygen cylinders in Sheema Automatic Re-Rolling Mills Limited in Sitakunda of Chattogram district.
“The explosion shattered the metal structure, igniting a fire. 10 firefighting units put out the fire in less than an hour.,” the local fire service department said.
District Deputy Commissioner of Police Md Fakhruzzaman told reporters that five bodies were found at the scene of the tragedy. “At least 25 people suffered injuries in the explosion,” he added.
Fakhruzzaman further said that special investigation committee has been formed to probe into the matter.
Earlier in January, Bangladesh Fire Services and Civil Defense headquarters released an annual report on fire incidents in the country. According to the data, 24,102 fire incidents were reported across Bangladesh in 2022.
“At least 98 persons were killed and 407 were hospitalized during these incidents. 13 of the deceased were firefighters, according to the fire command,” the fire headquarters said.
