Kathmandu, Jun 23: A small bridge under construction in Motihari (East Champaran), Bihar, India, collapsed on Sunday, marking the third such incident in the state within the past week.

According to the Indian news agency PTI, the bridge, located in the Ghorasahan block of Motihari, collapsed without causing any casualties. The Rural Development Department reported that the 16-meter-long bridge was being constructed over a canal to connect Amwa village with other areas of the block. The bridge project, estimated to cost around one and a half million rupees, experienced structural failure, raising concerns about construction standards and oversight.

This incident follows a similar event on June 4, when a section of another bridge under construction over the Ganga River in Bihar’s Khagaria district collapsed into the river. This bridge, intended to connect Sultanganj in Bhagalpur district with Aguani in Khagaria district, was being built at a cost of approximately Rs. 1717 crores.

These repeated collapses highlight significant issues in the construction and engineering practices in the region, prompting calls for thorough investigations and stricter regulatory measures to ensure the safety and reliability of infrastructure projects.
