The Nepalese Filipino Association (NFA) celebrated its Annual Christmas Family Day on December 14, 2024, at the Nepali Ghar Hotel in Thamel, Kathmandu. Over 70 members gathered to enjoy an afternoon filled with dance and song performances, fun games, and a hearty lunch. The event was graced by Member of Parliament Hon. Ek Nath Dhakal as the Chief Guest.

A highlight of the event was the Christmas Lantern Making competition, and in true holiday spirit, a Secret Santa gift exchange added a festive touch.

Even the lunch menu had a Filipino touch, with the adult menu featuring grilled chicken, fried rice, vegetables, and more. The kids’ menu offered classic Filipino favorites like spaghetti, fried chicken, and pizza. In addition to the main dishes, traditional Filipino delicacies such as puto, cassava cake, and other treats were also available.

In her Opening Remarks, NFA President Mrs. Blessie Dhakal reminded the Filipinos of the true essence of Christmas, a time for reunion, sharing love, and spreading kindness. The Nepalese Filipino Association is made up of Filipinos who have relocated to Nepal along with their families.

The Christmas season can be bittersweet for Filipinos abroad. While they look forward to celebrating cherished traditions, they often feel a deep longing for the company of their family and loved ones back home in the Philippines.

Despite being far from their families in the Philippines, Filipinos in Nepal find comfort and connection within their community. The NFA’s Christmas gathering is a testament to this, showing that even a small community can come together to create vibrant, meaningful celebrations. Their enthusiasm, talent, and strong sense of camaraderie bring warmth to every event, making each one special.

The event was supported by significant businesses in Nepal such as Capital Grill, CALM Restaurant, Aloft Hotel, Crown Dental, Himalayan Java Coffee, Kantipur English High School, Nepali Ghar Hotel, Associated Enterprises, Hankook Sarang Korean Restaurant, Luisa’s Corner, Real Fruit Juice, and Coca-cola.
