South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol Removed from Office by Constitutional Court
Kathmandu, April 4: In a historic decision, South Korea’s Constitutional Court on Friday unanimously removed President Yoon Suk-yeol from office, following weeks of political turmoil.
Yoon had declared martial law in December, deploying military and police forces to the National Assembly, South Korea’s legislative body. The move sparked nationwide protests and drew sharp criticism from lawmakers and the public.
On December 14, the National Assembly passed an impeachment motion accusing Yoon of violating the constitution, undermining legislative independence, and disrupting national peace.
Following the court’s decision, South Korea is now set to hold presidential elections within two months to elect a new head of state.
