GAITHERSBURG, Md., August 2, 2026: The Tamang Society of Greater Washington (TSGW), USA successfully organized its Annual Summer Picnic on Sunday at Seneca Creek State Park in Gaithersburg, Maryland, bringing together more than 300 members, families, friends, and guests for a day of cultural celebration, community fellowship, and outdoor recreation.

The annual gathering highlighted the rich heritage of the Tamang community while promoting unity, friendship, and cultural diversity among Nepali Americans and the wider community. Participants enjoyed traditional Nepali cuisine, cultural interactions, recreational activities, music, games, and family-friendly entertainment throughout the day.

The event was honored by the presence of Maryland State Delegate William C. Smith Jr., members of the Gaithersburg City Council, and other local community leaders, whose participation reflected the strong relationship between the Tamang community and local government. Their attendance underscored the growing contributions of the Nepali American community to the cultural and civic life of Maryland.

During the welcome address, organizers expressed their appreciation to all attendees and emphasized the importance of preserving Tamang culture while embracing the diversity that makes Gaithersburg one of Maryland’s most welcoming and multicultural cities. They noted that gatherings such as the annual picnic strengthen community ties, promote mutual understanding, and provide opportunities for younger generations to remain connected to their cultural roots.

Speakers also acknowledged the historical significance of the region, recognizing the Piscataway people as the original stewards of the land where Seneca Creek State Park now stands. The park’s scenic forests, meadows, streams, and Clopper Lake provided an ideal setting for families to enjoy nature while celebrating their shared heritage.

Organizers thanked the volunteers, sponsors, and community members whose dedication made the event possible. They also expressed gratitude to the elected officials and city representatives for their continued support of the Nepali American community.
