Jared Kushner and his deputy nominated for Nobel Peace Prize over “Abraham Accords”
Every year, the nomination opens in September and closes in January. This year, it was closed on Sunday.
Kathmandu, February 1. The former senior advisor to White House, Jared Kushner and his deputy Avi Berkowitz have been nominated for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize for their extraordinary role as negotiators in the “Abraham Accords”.
The Abraham Accords are a joint agreement between Israel, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco and the United States that reached on August 13, 2020.
The Nobel Prizes are awarded to distinguished individuals who have contributed to the fields of literature, natural sciences, global peace, and economics. Each year, thousands of members of academies, university professors, scientists, previous Nobel Laureates and members of parliamentary assemblies and others, are asked to submit candidates for the Nobel Prizes for the coming year. These nominators are chosen in such a way that as many countries and universities as possible are represented over time.
Both Kushner and Berkowitz were nominated by the American attorney Alan Dershowitz who is also a professor emeritus of Harvard Law School.
Media reports suggest that the Norwegian lawmakers, who have a track record of selecting the winner, have backed Alexei Navalny(Russian dissident) and Greta Thunberg(climate campaigner) this year. The Black Lives Matter movement has also been nominated for its “remarkable achievement in raising global awareness on racial injustice.”
