Kathmandu, February 17. After DR Congo and Guinea declared the emergence of Ebola virus, the World Health Organization (WHO) on Tuesday alerted six countries to prepare for a potential outbreak of Ebola virus.
While speaking on Geneva briefing, WHO’s Margaret Harris said: We have already alerted the six countries around, including of course Sierra Leone and Liberia, and they are moving very fast to prepare and be ready and to look for any potential infection
Ebola had first appeared in 2013 in Guinea. Between 2013 to 2016, it took the lives of at least 11,500 people in West African countries. After 4 years, Guinea on Sunday declared a “epidemic situation” when 3 people died due to the viral infection. At least 7 people have been diagnosed with the latest infection in Guinea.
Earlier on February 7, Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC) declared the 13th outbreak of Ebola. “We have two ongoing Ebola outbreaks in the DRC, 12th and 13th” said Harris. So far, at least four latest cases of Ebola have been confirmed in DRC this month.
Meanwhile, Vaccination campaign has been started in the areas where the infection is first reported.
