Biden signs two executive orders on International Women’s Day
Kathmandu, March 9. With the aim of promoting gender equity, US President Joe Biden on Monday signed two executive orders on foreign and domestic policies. The orders were signed marking the occasion of International Women’s Day.
Biden through an official statement said,
“In our nation, as in all nations, women have fought for justice, shattered barriers, built and sustained economies, carried communities through times of crisis, and served with dignity and resolve.
Their contributions have been downplayed. Their stories have been neglected. That is why International Women’s Day is also a time for us to recommit ourselves to the cause of equity and equality for women the world over, and to shine a light on the systemic obstacles that fuel gender disparities and undermine women’s potential.”
Biden also opined that the pandemic has triggered an increase in violence against women. The pandemic forced girls to stay out of school that could cause economic damages in their future.
According to the latest data on the pandemic, 2.5 million women were forced to leave their jobs in 2020.
