Finland PM’s breakfast bill to be investigated by the police
Kathmandu, May 31. Finland police have announced that they will be investigating on the breakfast bills of Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin. It has been alleged that the breakfast bills has been subsidised illegally using taxpayers’ money.
A tabloid named ‘Iltalehti’ reported that she has been claiming back about 300 euros ($365) per month for her family’s breakfasts while living at her official residence, Kesaranta.
Marin said on Twitter, “As Prime Minister I have not asked for this benefit nor been involved in deciding on it.” She said that her predecessors were also given the same facility.
After a request for a probe into the issue, the police on Friday said, “The Prime Minister has been reimbursed for some meals, even though the wording of the law on ministerial remuneration does not appear to permit this.”
Marin has welcomed the decision and has said that she will stop claiming for the benefit until the investigation is on.
The Social Democrat politician has enjoyed public support since she held office in 2019. Finland is also preparing for elections on June 13.
