Austrian Chancellor resigns to avoid “vote of no confidence”
Kathmandu, October 10. After the corruption probe team raided down his office, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has announced that he will step down from office.
Kurz said in a broadcast address on Saturday that the corruption claims against him were baseless and that he had not exploited the state’s capital for personal gain. He also said that he wanted to make some space in the government to ensure stability.
35-year-old Kruz was appointed chancellor in January 2020. Months later, Kruz and his associates were accused of corruption, bribery, and breach of trust. An investigation was launched into the situation, which brought a crisis to the government.
The opposition parties demanded a vote of no confidence in parliament last week. To avoid more uncertainty in the country’s governance, Kruz declared that Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg would become the new chancellor.
