Kathmandu. Thousands of Nepalese citizens who have been waiting to fly to South Korea for employment opportunities have been left in a state of confusion. More than 4,000 Nepali workers, after passing the Test of Proficiency in Korean(TOPIK), have not been able to travel due to the pandemic.

The Nepali Embassy in Seoul issued a public notice clearing the matter on the entry of workers under the EPS into South Korea. The Embassy elaborated, “Due to the current outbreak of COVID-19 in Nepal, the influx of migrant workers has been halted and a decision can only be made in the future based on the route the coronavirus infection takes.” South Korea’s current policy is to “wait and see” for now and to make a later decision based on the COVID-19 situation in Nepal.

The Director General of the Department of Foreign Employment, Kumar Prasad Dahal claimed that  “South Korea has said it will provide information on the repatriation process by the end of September. The process of moving the workers to Korea was supposed to start from October, however given the current scenario, it is difficult to say anything.”
