Chinese Archaeologists discover 29 ancient tombs that belonged to “Eastern Han” dynasty
Kathmandu, November 8. A team of archaeologists has discovered 29 ancient tombs from an excavation site in Jinan, the capital city of China’s Shandong Province.
11 of the 29 tombs date back to the Eastern Han Dynasty, which ruled the area 1,800 years ago (25-220 AD). Four of these tombs were covered with 10 different types of bricks, arranged in decorative patterns to form beautiful images of rabbits and toads. Both of the animals have space in popular Chinese mythology of the moon goddess.
Li Ming, the head of Jinan’s archaeological research institute, told reporters that 18 tombs are initially assumed to have been buried during the Qing Dynasty’s reign (1644-1911).
Ming also confirmed the discovery of more than 90 cultural relics. Household pottery and metal coins are among the artifacts discovered.
