Public vehicle driver’s plight: ‘We can barely afford sanitizers’
Kathmandu. Transportation that had been disrupted for the past six months due to the coronavirus pandemic has now been hampered by the lack of passengers. Public transport operators have complained that it is barely enough to even afford sanitizers with the income they generate currently.
Bishal Magar, a microbus driver traveling to and fro between Nuwakot and Galchhi interrogatively stated, “How do we earn money when there are no passengers?”
The government resumed long-distance transport on Asoj 1. For many people however, public transport is not of their preference in the present scenario. Ramesh Chaudhary, a co-driver of a vehicle going from Butwal to Kathmandu, had the same complaint as he stated, “There are hardly any passengers. We have to travel long distances carrying just four or five people.”
Some people are of the opinion that it would be appropriate to close the public transport as there is no income from it. As widely witnessed, the general public prefers to travel on foot instead of using public transportation to avoid catching the virus.
