QUAD members discuss for climate, COVID and maritime security

Kathmandu, February 11. The members of Quad have pledged for a coercion free Indo Pacific. The foreign ministers of India, Australia, Japan and United States have decided to cooperate in sectors such as humanitarian relief, terrorism, cyber and maritime security and global supply chain challenges.

They have also pledged to tackle other matters such as climate change, COVID among other issues.

US Secretary of State Blinken commented on China’s intervention in the region by saying that China has been aggressively acting in home and in the region. Matters of Ukraine and North Korea was also discussed.

The Quad countries have started to hold annual naval exercises across the Indo-Pacific. The United States itself conducts freedom of navigation patrols in the South China Sea.

Critics have revealed that China has more trade partners in the region, while US economic engagement in the region is weak.
