Kathmandu, February 20. The streets in Ottawa in Canada has grown silent as the police forces have cleared the truckers from the streets.
The protests that started from a covid mandate for cross border truckers went on for weeks, showing the spread of disinformation in Canada along with increased right winged and populist anger.
Protesting truckers parked in streets in front of the parliament and blew the horns, increasing noise and disturbing the neighborhood. They risked being arrested even after warnings that their bank accounts could freeze under the emergency powers announced by Trudeau.
Police on Friday managed to clear and arrest a large number of protestors through a police operation considered largest in its history. At least 170 people were arrested and dozens of vehicles were town away.
According to an article in AP, US donors have given about 44 percent of the nearly $10 million to support the protesters. Experts have revealed that US is supporting the protest to boost conservative politics in US, where the midterm elections are near.
While the protests seem to have stopped, Canadian border agency has reported that some protestors advised a truck crossing the border to take a different route.
