US Ambassador Berry makes courtesy call to Home Minister Khand
Kathmandu, March 2: United States of America’s ambassador to Nepal, Randy Berry made a courtesy call on Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand at his office, Singha Durbar on Wednesday.
The conversation focused on Nepal-US ties as well as the US-backed Minimum Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact, which was recently approved by Nepal’s House of Representatives(HoR).
Minister Khand thanked Ambassador Berry and the US government for their support and help in relation to the MCC on the occasion. He further noted that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had been adamant on the parliament’s endorsement of the deal, whether as a government constituent or as an opposition party.
He said,”The compact got success as the PM always being serious about the issue became successful in getting support of all political parties being mindful that the coalition government should not get affected as a result. We all Nepali people and the government are happy for the passage of the agreement.”
Minister Khand’s press coordinator Madhusudhan Bhattarai quoted the minister as saying, “The Government of Nepal has always been in favor of further improving relations between the two states.”
Ambassador Berry applauded on the ratification of the compact and added that the interpretative declaration included themes that they had mentioned since the beginning.
He also hoped that US government will continue work with Nepal on growth, prosperity and peace.
