Spain planning to provide menstrual leave in new law
Kathmandu, May 16. Spain is planning to provide menstrual leave for women suffering from severe period pain. The provision will allow three days of leave a month.
The law is set for approval next week. Further, if the law is passed, it will be the first country in Europe to pass such a law.
The law will not be applied to those women facing mild discomfort.
Additionally, the law also aims to bring changes in abortion law and tampon tax- a tax applied in menstrual hygiene products. The changes call for free hygiene products in schools and prison. Spain is further planning to remove the requirement of parental permission for abortion cases concerning 16 and 17-year-olds.
Other countries that grant menstrual leave include Japan, South Korea, Indonesia and Zambia.
